Vanessa YiRan Li is a sophomore at Wellesley interested in the intersection of medicine and engineering. Vanessa previously worked with SurgiBox on a compressible HEPA air filter system using origami techniques. Furthermore, she was a member of the MIT iGEM 2019 team where she engineered human embryonic cells to stimulate controlled and directional cell swarms. Outside of the lab, Vanessa enjoys dancing with the Wellesley College Dancers, playing the violin as a part of the Chamber Music Society, and traveling around the world with her family and friends. She joined the Zhang lab in October 2019 and is working on 3D bioprinting and organ-on-a-chip models.
